Moving Stories - 10 people, 10 experiences, one unmissable exhibition

A travelling exhibition exploring ten people’s experiences of interacting with the Scottish Parliament will open in Low Parks Museum, Hamilton on Friday 30 April.

The exhibition includes the story of Bob Reid from North Lanarkshire who called on the Parliament to support his campaign for proper off-road motorbike facilities for young people as a challenging alternative to anti-social behaviour.

Holyrood’s ‘Moving Stories’ exhibition will be opened by the Scottish Parliament’s Presiding Officer, Alex Fergusson MSP, and will also be attended by some of the people whose stories are told in the exhibition.

This updated version of the interactive exhibition, which toured 1,330 miles around Scotland during 2009, combines photography, objects and audio-visual material exploring 10 personal experiences of Holyrood.

Speaking ahead of the Hamilton launch, Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson MSP said: “It’s wonderful that more than 100,000 people have already had the opportunity to see the ‘Moving Stories’ exhibition as it has toured around Scotland. At the launch in Hamilton, we will unveil an updated version of the exhibition which explains how the stories of the ten people featured have moved on since they first became involved with the Scottish Parliament.”

“There has been a fantastic public response to this exhibition so far and I hope our run in Hamilton will inspire even more people to use the Scottish Parliament as a positive force for change in their lives and communities.”

Local media are invited to attend the launch which will take place at 10.30am on Friday 30 April in the museum. The Presiding Officer will be available for interviews and photography. Photographs of the event will be available on request from the Scottish Parliament’s Media Relations Office (Andrew Cowan, tel 0131 348 5878).

Provost Russell Clearie MBE JP and Bob Reid, founder of the North Lanarkshire Scramble and Quad Bike Club will also attend the launch.
