Scottish Parliament hosts The BT Scotland National Schools Gaelic Debate Final

26.11.2014

The BT Scotland National Schools Gaelic Debate Final, now in its 16th year, will again be contested and broadcast live on BBC Radio nan Gàidheal from the Scottish Parliament tonight from 7pm.

Scottish Parliament’s Deputy Presiding Officer John Scott MSP said:

“The Scottish Parliament is rightly considered the home of lively debate and I hope this spurs on the finalists in their efforts.

“The calibre of debate created by these young people deserves as wide an audience as possible.  This year’s final debate is set to be outstanding and I would encourage members of the public to listen in.”

Twenty two teams representing seventeen secondary schools throughout Scotland participated in the initial stages at An Lanntair in Stornoway.

Tonight’s finalists are: Megan Dale and Ella Scarr of Dingwall Academy and Callum Nicolson and Mairi MacLennan of the Nicolson Institute. The topic matter for the debate final will be: “In terms of media know-how, Gaels have little to learn from anyone”.
