This subject profile provides an overview of Equal Opportunities at EU, UK and Scottish levels. Although Equal Opportunities is reserved to the UK Parliament, the Scottish Parliament can ‘encourage and promote’ equal opportunities. In recent years there have been a number of key changes to the UK’s equality machinery. These changes have followed on from the implementation of European Directives. The new Commission for Equality and Human Rights will be established in October 2007. The Commission for Racial Equality, the Disability Rights Commission and the Equal Opportunities Commission will all be dissolved.
