SB 14-80 The European Convention on Human Rights in the United Kingdom

This briefing provides information on the European Convention on Human Rights and the role of the European Court of Human Rights in enforcing the Convention.  It then explains how the Convention has been applied in the United Kingdom including by the Human Rights Act 1998.  The briefing then sets out the proposals by the Conservative Party to reform human rights laws in the UK and examines the possible implications of any reform.
