On 15 July 2016, the European and External Relations Committee wrote to the Committee outlining its future work programme following the result of the referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union and the Scottish Parliament's European Strategy. On 22 September 2016, the Committee responded.
On 22 September 2016 the Committee wrote to the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform regarding the implications for Scotland of the result of the referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union.
On 17 October 2016 the Committee received a letter from the Northern Irish Assembly for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs on research they have commissioned on the potential impact of Brexit. On the 25 October the Committee Convener sent a response:
On 22 November 2016, the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Relations Committee wrote to the Committee's EU reporter, David Stewart MSP, providing an update on its work on the implications of the UK's withdrawal from the EU for Scotland.
On 22 November 2016, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform wrote to the Committee providing an update on the Scottish Government's work on the implications for Scotland of the result of the referendum on the UK's membership of the EU.
On 9 December 2016, the Committee received correspondence from the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Relations Committee Convener on EU Engagement and scrutiny.
On 7 February 2017, the Convener wrote to the Convener of the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Relations Committee on EU Engagement and scrutiny in response to the letter the Committee received on 9 December 2016.
On 29 March 2017 the Convener wrote to the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform seeking clarification on the environmental implications for Scotland of the UK leaving the EU, following its evidence session with a panel of environmental experts on 14 March 2017.
On 18 April 2017, the Convener wrote to the Committee's House of Common and House of Lords counterparts to invite them to discuss issues of mutual interest and the potential for joint working on the environmental implications for Scotland of the UK leaving the EU.

On 27 April 2017, the Committee received a letter from Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Connectivity, providing an update on the key point raised at a recent meeting between DEFRA and representatives of the Devolved Administrations.
On 14 June 2017, the Convener wrote to the newly appointed Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, inviting him to a future Committee meeting.

On 21 June 2018 the Convener wrote to the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform following the Committee's evidence session on 5 June 2018 with the Roundtable on Environment and Climate Change on their report on environmental governance in Scotland after EU withdrawal.

EU Environment Council Updates
On 8 July 2016, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform wrote to the Committee informing it of the discussions which had taken place at the EU Environment Council on 20 June 2016. The topics covered included reform of the Emission Trading Scheme and the ratification of the Paris agreement.
On 18 October 2016, the Committee received a letter from the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform providing the Committee with an update on the EU Environment Council meeting held in Brussels on 30 September 2016.
On 15 March 2017, the Convener received a letter from the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform providing an update on the outcomes of the EU Environment Council meeting she attended in Brussels on 28 February 2017.
