Holyrood Committee to examine Scotland’s spend on the environment.
A Holyrood Committee has today launched a call for views on the future budget allocated to the environment, climate change and land reform in Scotland.
As part of its work in examining the Scottish Government’s 2019/20 budget, the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee wants to hear the public’s views on how the budget for environment, climate change and land reform is effectively contributing to healthy communities and a globally-sustainable economy.
The focus of the Committee’s pre-budget scrutiny will be on ‘preventative spend’ and how spending can avoid problems in the future, as well as reducing spend elsewhere.
As part of the inquiry, the Committee will also explore the impact of the capital budget to support the delivery of public infrastructure in Scotland, including spend on buildings, roads, rail and digital, on carbon emissions.
Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee Deputy Convener, John Scott MSP, said:
“Our Committee wants to hear a wide range of views on Scotland’s budget for the environment, climate change and land reform, and whether this pot of money will help to deliver a globally-sustainable economy and support improvements to health and wellbeing.
“All of the evidence we receive will help inform and shape our Committee’s work in examining the budget and if there should be a change in spending priorities to achieve our wider goals.”
