The Committee reports to the Parliament as follows—
The Food Protection (Emergency Prohibitions) (Dalgety Bay) (Scotland) Order 2012 (SSI/2012/135)
1. The Food Protection (Emergency Prohibitions) (Dalgety Bay) (Scotland) Order 2012 (SSI/2012/135) was laid before the Parliament on 9 May 2012.
2. It is an emergency instrument. The instrument came into force on the day that it was laid. As an emergency instrument it will cease to have effect after 28 days, beginning with the date on which it was made, unless before the expiry of that 28 day period, the Order has been approved by resolution of the Scottish Parliament.
3. The purpose of the instrument is to provide protection to consumers from a potential food chain risk due to the presence of radioactive particles at Dalgety Bay in Fife.
4. At its 17th meeting 2012, held on 22 May, the Health and Sport Committee considered the instrument.
5. The Committee noted that the Subordinate Legislation Committee did not make any comments on the instrument.1
6. The Committee took evidence on the instrument from the Minister for Public Health, Michael Matheson MSP.
7. The Minister moved motion S4M-02866---
That the Health and Sport Committee recommends that the Food Protection (Emergency Prohibitions) (Dalgety Bay) (Scotland) Order 2012 be approved.
8. The motion was agreed to.
