Scrutiny of the draft budget 2013-14

 

Remit

The Scottish Government's draft budget for 2013-14 can be found below.

The normal timetable for budget scrutiny follows on from this:

  • Mid-November - subject committees report to the Finance Committee
  • Early December - Finance Committee publishes report on draft budget
  • Week prior to Christmas recess - debate on Finance Committee report
  • by 20 January - Scottish Government publishes budget bill
  • End of January - Stage 1 debate
  • Prior to February recess - Stage 2 and Stage 3

 

 

Evidence

In its Scottish Spending Review 2011 and Draft Budget 2012-13 the Scottish Government stated that:

    "The decisions taken within this Budget have been shaped by the Scottish Government's Purpose of creating a more successful country, with opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish, through increasing sustainable economic growth. Our budget supports job creation."

The Committee has agreed to focus its scrutiny of the draft budget 2013-14 on whether spending decisions align with the Scottish Government's overarching Purpose of increasing sustainable economic growth.

The Local Government and Regeneration Committee has launched its call for evidence on the Scottish Government’s Draft Budget 2013/14. This year, the Committee will focus its scrutiny on the Government’s regeneration strategy. To make a contribution to the Committee’s scrutiny please see the call for evidence. The closing date for receipt of submissions was 1 October 2012.
