Operation of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012

 

Summary

At its meeting on 23 April 2013 the Committee considered issues relating to the operation of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012. The Committee agreed to write to Police Scotland, the Scottish Police Authority, the Lord Advocate and the Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs seeking further information on a number of issues raised in respect of recent developments.

At its meeting on 18 June 2013 the Committee considered and noted the correspondence from the Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs, the Lord Advocate, the Chief Constable and the Scottish Police Authority on the operation of the Act. The Committee agreed to write to the Chief Constable seeking further information on issues raised during discussion.

At its meeting on 5 November 2013 the Committee considered correspondence received and agreed to write to the Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs, the Chief Constable, Police Scotland and the Lord Advocate seeking a response to issues raised.

At its meeting on 4 March 2014 the Committee took further evidence from the Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs.

The Committee also agreed at that meeting to consider the next research document on charges reported under the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 after it is published in June 2014.
