The Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee undertook Stage 1 scrutiny of the Bankruptcy and Debt Advice (Scotland) Bill, which was introduced to the Scottish Parliament by the Scottish Government on 11 June 2013.
The Bill sought to to ‘ensure that appropriate, proportionate, debt management and debt relief mechanisms are available’ and contains provisions to support the Accountant in Bankruptcy in improving its service.

The Committee issued a call for evidence (117KB pdf) on Monday 24 June 2013 which closed on 23 August 2013.
The responses received are available to view here. The Committee took evidence in October and November and has now reported to the Parliament.
The Committee dealt with Stage 2 of the Bill on Wednesday 22 January.
