Presumption Against Short Periods of Imprisonment (Scotland) Order 2019

About the Inquiry

In its Programme for Government 2018-19, the Scottish Government stated that it would extend the presumption against short sentences to 12 months. This will be done by way of an affirmative Scottish Statutory Instrument (SSI):

In advance of this SSI being laid, the Committee sent out a targeted call for written evidence with a deadline of 22 May 2019. Responses received are published below. The Committee intends to take oral evidence on the SSI in June 2019.
