This portrait of Her Majesty The Queen was commissioned by the Scottish Parliament as part of the commemoration of its tenth anniversary. The Parliament was officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen on 1 July 1999, when it received its full legislative powers.
The portrait was taken in the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Her Majesty’s official residence in Scotland.The Queen is wearing a white gown, pearl earrings and pearl necklace, and a thistle shaped diamond brooch that belonged to her grandmother Queen Mary.
Shaun Murawski was selected for the commission from a number of photographers put forward by Scotland's art schools, universities and colleges who run fine art and photography courses.
